The world's coastlines, dividing land from sea, are geological environments that are unique in their composition and the physical processes affecting them. At the dynamically active intersection of land and the oceans, humans have been building structures throughout history.Initially used for naval and commercial purposes, more recently recreation and tourism have increased activity in the coastal zone dramatically. Shoreline development is now causing a significant conflict with natural coastal processes. This text on coastal engineering will help the reader understand these coastal processes and develop strategies to cope effectively with shoreline erosion. The book is organized in four parts: (1) an overview of coastal engineering, using case studies to illustrate problems; (2) hydrodynamics of the coastal zone, reviewing storm surges, water waves, and low frequency motions within the nearshore and surf zone; (3) coastal responses including equilibrium beach profiles and sediment transport; (4) applications such as erosion mitigation, beach nourishment, coastal armoring, tidal inlets, and shoreline management.
This book makes an important contribution to the growing literature on sport in international development. It introduces and explores the practice and efficacy of international sport development through the experiences of young people who become engaged in sport programmes, as described in their own words and those of other members of their communities. Drawing on the findings of three in-depth research studies conducted with young people in Brazil, India and Zambia, the book provides a critical and wide-ranging portrayal of the role that sport can play within the lives of young people, locating this firmly within wider social, economic and political contexts.
Alongside its delivery of new empirical research on young people, the book engages with fundamental academic debates surrounding âevidencingâ impacts of sport and explores issues surrounding the cultural specificity of research approaches currently in use in sport in development work. This contribution to theory and methodology has important implications beyond the international development context, to the broader area of research surrounding evidencing the impacts of sport. Based on unique data, the book extends our knowledge and understanding of youth sport and is essential reading for anybody with an interest in sport development, international development or sport in society.

Where is the $1 trillion coming from to help uninsured Americans get health insurance?
According to USA Today, 45 million Americans don't have health insurance. It also said the first year would take about trillion the first year to get that plan in operation. Where is that money coming from? China? Our great grand kids?
Best answer:
Answer by zeuz There will be cost reductions to Medicare (old people will have less coverage or pay more for Medicare).
There will be lower reimbursements to doctors and hospitals (but the plan fails to recognize that when you lower reimbursements, utilization increases, which means costs will increase.)
So-called "rich people" will be taxed, but you'll quickly find out that YOU are very, very rich.

No American philosopher has sold more books to the general public than Randâ"over thirty million at last count, with over a half million being sold on a yearly basis.Randâs legacy is widespread and enduring. But despite the extent of her influence, her ideas have not received much attention from scholars and critics.
Her philosophical views, many of which are extremely controversial, literally cry out for interpretation and criticism. But little along these lines has appeared.
Ayn Rand Contra Human Nature represents a major contribution to a critical understanding of Randâs so-called âObjectivistâ ideology. The book provides an entirely original and path-breaking interpretation of the motivational underpinnings of Randâs philosophy. Based on extensive research of Randâs writings, including her journals and letters, the book demonstrates how Objectivism sprung from Randâs romantic and idealistic view of human nature. Rand repeatedly claimed that the goal of her writing was âthe projection of an ideal manâ and that her philosophy was merely âa necessary means to that end.âUsing this insight as an interpretive touchstone, the book proceeds to explain how Randâs views on history, human knowledge, morality, and aesthetics were profoundly influenced by her idolatry of the âideal man.â Rand, in order to explain why her view of human nature did not accord with the facts of history or the findings of scholars and scientists, had to formulate an elaborate rationalization in defense of her vision of man. Ayn Rand Contra Human Nature follows Randâs tortured logic and refutes not only her ideas about human nature, but her ideas about history, ethics, politics, and art as well.
