How did authors view their role and their poetry during the English Renaissance?

Basically what did the authors during the renaissance think their role was to society and their poetry's role?
Authors like Shakespeare Donne etc

Also if you have any knowledge on Restoration and Romantic authors and their views on their roles in society, that would be very helpful as well.

If you can include the texts from where you get your info from that'd be great!

Renaissance poetry is exclusively about getting women to have sex with the poet. In the Romantic period, there some how believe themselves to be the "unacknowledged legislators of the world."
