Is one graphic card compatible with every computer or are there specific ones for a desktop?

I'm planning on buying a new graphic card after mine totally fried
I'm not sure if buying any graphic card will fit in my computer?
Do i need a specific type for my computer? Help?

There are different graphic card slots. You need to check the specs for your computer. It will either be AGP, PCI Express x16, or PCI Express x16 2.0. Take the model of your computer and Google it.
