Light moves through the lens the question is what device detects the light to convert it into digital signals. The device used in any cyber shot or phones like nokia.

It is simply called an imaging sensor... there are different kinds though... a phone is most likely to have a CCD sensor, while advanced cameras most likely have a CMOS sensor... Nikon has a different name for their sensors, but they are the same thing really...
